It was in the first year of university where Jasmine and Shane first met. Initially the interest in each other wasn’t there, but as time moved forward and they got to know more about the other they began to see each other in a different light. More and more their paths would serendipitously cross on campus, leading to their first lunch together. It wasn’t an official date just yet, but an indelible impression was certainly left on them both…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Jasmine: “Shane and I met in our first year of University when we moved onto the same floor in residence. I thought Shane was nice and mannerly but certainly not my type.”
Shane: “Jasmine seemed like the adventurous type…we did not show interest in each other initially but I knew that we would date eventually…”
Jasmine: “Fast forward to the end of our second year for a solid week we kept running into each other across campus. By Friday, probably our fourth out-of-the-blue run in, Shane asked me to lunch. I did not consider it a date and made sure to ask for separate bills. Following that lunch, Shane had left a lasting impression on me. We started dating the next summer. Our first official date was at Allstar Wings and Ribs, from which wings became a staple in our relationship.”
Shane: “I made the proposal as soon as I got the ring. It was something I knew I wanted, and something I felt needed to be done. Right around the time I got the ring I also received a new job offer. I took her out to celebrate the new job and starting a “new chapter in our life.” Getting married was something we had discussed before, so I simply gave her the ring over dinner, and asked her if she was ready to start this journey with me. Although simple in my approach, I didn’t feel nervous about any grand gesture not working out, or the “surprise factor.” It was the first time I was (we were) sure about something, and I relish the intimacy of the moment. This is the certainty with which we want to formally begin our life together.”
Describe your engagement session. Shane: “Our schedules are so busy that we rarely get an opportunity to dress up and show out! Seeing Jasmine so glam’d up was captivating, getting to enjoy her company while also playing out the vision we had set for ourselves was a treat. We had both put a lot of thought into our session and how we wanted it to look, and to play the day out accompanied by our amazing photographer/planner was a pleasure.”
Jasmine: “I loved the energy throughout the session and the opportunity to celebrate and capture our love. I adored our second look. Shane and I are often too busy to have glam nights, but we always make time for cozy nights in, catching up on shows we’ve missed. That time is our bonding time; we laugh, we rave, we rant and we enjoy each other’s company. I felt our second look really captured the essence of that time together.”
What did you do on your first date? Shane invited me over and with the assistance of his roommates made a dish of Ratatouille. The dish turned out nothing like Ratatouille, but the effort and the dinner company made up for it! We shared that meal and had great conversation about our interests, and our goals. It was a really refreshing evening; we had known each other for a year and a half, but that was the first time we really got to know each other past the surface.
What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? We love to binge watch shows, especially the cooking competition variety. We also love to dine out and pretend to be food critiques based on our TV knowledge of food.
How has wedding planning been so far? We started planning about a year in advance, and we can easily say that our vision now, is no where near what it was in the beginning. We have both been very hands on and Shane is such a visionary. We are inspired almost every day and our ideas are always evolving. Everything up to this point has been going smoothly and we can attribute that to our wedding planners, Leigh Events.
What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day? Shane: “I am looking forward to seeing this dress Jasmine has been raving about, and for our vision to be realized. I am also looking forward to the official declaration that I can spend my life with my wife.”
Jasmine: “I am really looking forward to making it official! I am also so excited to celebrate and dance my dress off with our close family and friends!”
