Shelton and Lennard first met over fifteen years ago at church, when both joined the Church’s Greek Ministry. They quickly became friends, but it wouldn’t be until a first Friday event in 2010 when “the sparks really started.” They talked, laughed and danced late into the night, and from that evening on their relationship continuously evolved from friendship into love and romance. As their love grew stronger, Lennard soon realized that in Shelton he had discovered “the One.” In Lennard’s words, “the moment I realized I stopped thinking ‘I’ and was always thinking ‘we,’” was the moment he knew it was meant to be…

Finding the perfect moment to make it forever occurred on New Year’s Eve of 2016 at the stroke of midnight. As in previous years, Shelton and Lennard decided to attend a New Year’s Eve party with some of their close friends. Instead of their traditional midnight kiss, just as the new year was about to ring in, Lennard handed a pre-typed letter to Shelton. The letter was a romantic expression of love, encapsulating his feelings for his soulmate. Shelton reached the second page and read the words, “will you marry me.” Completely stunned he turned towards Lennard who had taken a knee, engagement ring in hand, asking once again, “will you marry me?”

Shelton and Lennard were joined together forever as a married couple in Houston, Texas, surrounded by loving family and friends. Their wedding was “romantic eclectic with a masculine flair,” and featured elements of New Orleans culture, expressed in stylized umbrellas, masks, and handkerchiefs, as well as in music with a Second Line reception entrance. Shelton and Lennard were sophisticatedly handsome in custom tuxedos inline with the overall romantic blue color scheme.

Best Memories: Our wedding was the happiest day of our lives. Although there are so many memorable highlights of the night, I think our best memory would be when we opened the doors to see all of our family and friends there to support our union. A close second would be the Reception 1st reveal where we saw our vision come to life with the help of our Wedding Planner, Events with Darrell.

Advice for Engaged Couples: Enjoy the journey of planning the entire wedding together. And make sure there’s an open line of communication to express both parties’ wants and desires.
