It’s a story of true college sweethearts. Lauren, affectionately known as Bunni, and Brandon met their freshman year in Huntsville, AL. They’d hung out frequently and eventually grew closer. During the second semester of their freshman year they began dating. The pair stayed together for the next four years, graduating at the same time. Shortly after graduation, Bunni had to move back home to Bermuda, putting a bit of a strain on their relationship. But they wouldn’t let that come in between what they’d built. “During one of my visits to see Brandon, we decided that we would get married. We picked a date and started planning the wedding before he actually proposed,” Bunni shared. Once she was allowed to move back to the U.S. she quickly packed her bags and got on a flight.
Brandon had been waiting to pick her up at the airport when she arrived. They drove to the apartment, in which Brandon had a surprise waiting. He instructed her to wait before coming inside and what she saw when she walked in brought her to tears. “I saw candles, roses, and Brandon (dressed very nicely) kneeling in the midst of all of it! I can’t remember most of what he said, but it was great!” she said in excitement.
The couple’s charming wedding was true to their southern ties and Lauren’s Bermudian roots. Sea foam green dressed the beautiful bridesmaids, while printed bow ties and suspenders kept the groom and groomsmen southern sharp. The gorgeous bride held a bouquet composed of roses, hydrangeas, and carnations. Pastels and baby’s breath are just a few things that gave this affair its true southern charm.

Describe your wedding dress. How was your shopping experience?
I would describe my wedding dress as being simple and elegant with a really long train! Since I planned a good portion of my wedding from Bermuda, I decided to have my dress made online through a website. I love lace and ball gown dresses but I just couldn’t find any that I liked at the boutiques on the island.
So I got in touch with someone from the dress website and they assigned a seamstress to me. We corresponded throughout the entire process. I emailed some pictures of dresses that I liked to her along with my measurements. I knew that shopping for my wedding dress online would be risky and I was nervous as heck! However, the seamstress sent pictures of the dress at all stages and I was able to ask for changes or approve it if it looked good. In the end my dress turned out beautifully, and I’m glad I took the risk.
What is your best memory from your wedding day?
My best memory from the wedding is seeing my husband for the first time after getting dressed for the ceremony. He looked really good and was super chill, as usual. I was a little stressed, but once I saw him I remembered what we came to do! We took our “first look” pictures with Mike and had a really good time!
Also, the dancing! We had soo much fun. Even my Grandpa got up and danced!
How was culture incorporated in your wedding?
We incorporated a Bermudian tradition into our wedding. Instead of having our wedding on a weekend, we had it on a Thursday afternoon/ evening. Back at home, Thursday is the traditional day to get married. Plus, some of our vendors offered cheaper prices during the week! Thankfully, Brandon didn’t care what day we had it on as long as we got married.
What advice do you have for our brides-to-be?
The best advice that I can give to engaged couples is to relax! Planning a wedding is stressful. However, at the end of the day as long as you’re married to each other that’s all that really matters! The main goal of that special day is not looking good or having the best food, it’s marriage – hands down! In my opinion, everything else (the dress, the decor, the music, the flowers) is the cherry on top!
Also, be sure to pick bridesmaids and groomsmen who will help you! Thankfully, God blessed us with an amazing wedding party to help us with every inch of decorating and planning. We did the flowers, the table decorations, and the ceremony decorations by ourselves. The more hands you have to help, the better. Our ceremony wouldn’t have been what it was without all of them.
