Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
I went out with a friend of mine which was totally out of character for me because it was the Sunday before the last day of classes and the day before “Reading Week” (the study week before law school final exams) started and I had been studying the entire day. My friend and I decided at the very last minute to briefly go out for drinks. I was at the bar ordering a drink & the guy next to me (who I never even saw walk up) gave me some corny pick-up line. I said, “Thank You” and turned to walk away without thinking anything else of it & then he asked me for my number. Because he wasn’t rude, I gave him my number & to this day we still laugh about this because I usually would give a fake number but for some reason I blurted out my real number.
I had mentioned causally to TJ that I wanted to see the Christmas light display at the Botanical Gardens. I never thought we would go because that’s not his thing. A couple of weeks later, TJ told me we were going to the Botanical Gardens that night. I was a little surprised and I got really suspicious when he suggested I wear a certain dress. We arrived at the Gardens and it was beautiful…all lit up & kind of romantic so I started thinking, “Oh, he might propose.”
We left the Botanical Gardens, so I let the idea of him proposing go. We were in the car & TJ was being so weird; he kept looking at his phone & kept getting lost so we were riding around in circles in Midtown. At this point, I’m starving & started to get aggravated. Then we passed by a building where everyone was dressed in Santa Claus & Miss Claus outfits & I blurted out, “I hope this is not where we are going.” So he sped off and we finally got dinner. After we ate, he went into a speech about our relationship & how much I mean to him & then he proposed. He later told me that we were going to that lounge with the crazy costume people but after he saw my face and the costumes, he changed his mind at the last minute.
Wedding Style
My wedding dress was a custom Winnie Couture gown. I had an idea of what I wanted my dress to look like but during the search process, I didn’t find one dress that was perfect. I knew I wanted a fitted dress with a dramatic bottom but while shopping I would love the top of one dress and the bottom of another dress. I loved the Winnie Couture boutique because they allowed complete customization. So, I actually chose the top of one dress and the bottom from another dress and I added a belt that I loved.
Memories
We loved our reception, from the food to everyone being on the dance floor the entire night. We also really loved the first look. It was nice to have a moment alone before the chaos started.
Help a bride-to-be out!
I would tell future brides to discuss your wedding style with your fiancé and try to stick to that as the wedding planning progresses because it definitely comes with lots of opinions.
