Feathers, pearls, lace- all of the luxurious design elements featured into today’s styled shoot scream 1920?s elegance and Art Deco glamour. The 1920’s continue to be one of the most popular eras for bridal inspiration! With the growth of the Harlem Renaissance, it was an extremely important period in the development of black artistic expression. So it is no wonder that many of our brides are truly captivated by beauty, art, fashion and lavish opulence of this time period. A Regal Affair Weddings and Events and Coterie member Natarsha Wright Photography teamed up for this gorgeous classic styled shoot that mixes elements of the 1920’s with modern touches. Read on as they describe their inspiration:
“When you look back at certain times in history there are always a few decades that stand out to you. It speaks to you in a way that nothing else can. It inspires you to recreate your own version of that style, look and feeling. The 1920’s was a time of opulence and grandeur. It was also a time of self-discovery and pushing new, exciting boundaries. Through prohibition, women’s suffrage and the Harlem Renaissance to name a few an era of decadence and rebellion was born. This shoot was inspired by it all. We wanted to push the limits by not using a traditional wedding gown and showcase something that was beautiful but not the norm. The flowers and decor were all designed with the over the top beauty we saw during the 1920’s era. We also wanted to keep a modern twist with the shoot with the pearl accents and use of feathers. The vintage tableware is purposefully mismatched to also display a bit of rebellion from tradition but also pulls together as a cohesive, eclectic look. The styled shoot is a small glimpse of our imagination of what a 1920’s wedding would look like. We hope you are as inspired by this era as we were.”
