When you hear the word “barn,” it usually does not bring up connotations of glamour and luxury. However, today’s styled shoot proves that seemingly disparate design aesthetics can blend together beautifully when done correctly. Chanda Daniels of A Monique Affair mixed chic city decor with rustic earthy elements to create an ambiance she calls “Urban Barn Chic.” You’ll have plenty ideas for your wedding or your next party after seeing these pictures. Here is what Chanda Daniels of A Monique Affair had to say about the inspiration behind the shoot: “The inspiration for this styled shoot came from our desire to celebrate the diverse elements that make up the bay area. To show the mix of vibrant city and edgy culture specific to the landscape of Oakland, CA. It’s a styled shoot we hope invites you to look at weddings from a different perspective, and consider how unexpected places can become unique wedding venues.
Our ultimate goal? To add a sophisticated touch to a barn wedding motif and show you how a little imagination can turn something as simple as your favorite restaurant into the ultimate wedding destination. We were honored to be given the permission of top notch Chef, Tanya Holland to use the beautiful, barn-style dining room of BSIDE BBQ located in historic Old West Oakland.
We love the surprise of unexpected elements which we communicate in this photo shoot by using the softness of white flowers and garden greenery to counter the wooden walls of the barn. We turned up the romantic glamour by playing with silk and sequined linens in smooth chocolate tones to bring a little bit of old Hollywood to the country. Then used a combination of vintage water goblets, glassware, old books, tin can vases, and a few pieces of Ms. Holland’s BBQ chicken, to tie the complete city meets country, Urban Barn Chic theme.
As you fall in love with these beautiful images, we hope to remind you of all the beauty and diversity the city of Oakland has to offer and how it boasts unique locales you can transform into your perfect wedding venue.”
