Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met on the very first day of college at the University of Pennsylvania. We lived in the same dorm and spotted each other from across the room at a dorm meeting on the first night. We were instantly friends and eventually realized we were in love! After college, we were a thousand miles apart for medical school but our love only grew stronger. Just before finding out we would be reunited for medical residency we went on a trip to Savannah, Georgia. We walked along the beach on Tybee Island at sunset and as the dolphins splashed around in the waves not too far off shore, Jeff got down on one knee! I instantly squealed “yes!”
How did you know they were “the one”? It was definitely love at first sight! I think because our friendship grew gradually along with our love, it was easy to see that we were made for each other. Above all, we just always took care of each other and knew we would always be each other’s #1 fan.
What was wedding shopping like for you? My mom and I travelled to our hometown of Delhi, India a few months before the wedding to do most of the wedding shopping. We took everyone’s measurements, the groom, bridal party, siblings, parents, and came back with 5 suitcases full of clothing for the three events of the wedding! We had a fusion Indian and American wedding so the attire was a mixture of both!
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? The wedding weekend started off with a Sangeet, which is an Indian tradition where families from both sides gather to mingle and entertain the bride and groom with a night of song and dance performances. The next morning, we had a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony which involves walking around a sacred fire 7 times while making the 7 vows of marriage written in the Vedic scriptures. This was followed by an English ceremony where we exchanged vows we had written. Finally, the weekend came to an end with an evening reception.
Favorite item on the menu: Our wedding cake!
First dance song: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley
What is your best memory from your wedding? Letting loose at reception was our favorite memory. We danced, we drank champagne, and we ate lots of wedding cake. It was truly a dream come true. To end it all, we had a sparkler exit which was stunningly beautiful!
