Age ain’t nothing but a number.
Sandra and Tony both grew up in Conway, South Carolina but due to their six year age gap, their paths never crossed. But fate, along with a little nudging from her cousin Fabian (who’s also Tony’s best friend), allowed Sandra to select Tony as her date for her 20th high school reunion. Since then, the two have been inseparable.
Tony selected Thanksgiving Day of 2015 as the day he would ask Sandra to marry him. Unbeknowst to Sandra, earlier that day Tony had asked her son and mother for her hand in marriage and they both said yes. After asking Sandra to come downstairs, he then posed the same question to her, and of course, she said yes too!
As fate originally united this beautiful pair, it is love that has kept them together.
Now the couple are planning for their September “I-do’s” with assistance from Coterie member and wedding planner, Atosha Barboza Bennett of Larger Than Life Events. In preparation the pair shot this sultry and sophisticated engagement session in Glen Echo Park (located in Glen Echo, Maryland) with M & A Photography.

Tell us about the engagement session! Did you have a theme?
We were told to wear our best! We had a James Bond theme. Both of us are fans of the spy series, and thought it would be a fun backdrop for our photoshoot.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was my 20th high school reunion. We danced all night, and laughed as if we were old friends. I was captivated by his beautiful green eyes, and enamored by his southern charm. He opened doors for me, and pulled out my chair all night. It felt so natural being with him.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Our favorite thing to do as a couple is travel. We both love experiencing a new culture, trying new foods, and the joy of marking that destination off our list.
How has wedding planning been so far?
I have the typical stresses of a first-time bride, but the planning process has been amazing. My team, which includes wedding and event planner, Atosha Barboza Bennett with Larger Than Life Events and Design, have made the process so much fun! With the comfort of protection from my best friend who is also a wedding planner, Shirley Payne.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I’m most looking forward to bringing our family and friends together in one place for such a joyous occasion.
