Tavin and Dahlia first fell in love with each other’s company and soon after, each other’s hearts.
After meeting in 2015 on her first week on the job, Tavin knew Dahlia was special. She shares, “Every time Dahlia walked into the room, it took my breath away…. she had me wrapped around her finger early on.”
During that first week working together, the pair bonded over open and honest conversations. Discussing everything from their families to their sexualities, and the hardships they’ve faced, their talks were brave and boundless. These shared moments of curiosity and vulnerability ultimately led them to jump from friendship into love.
Tavin knew Dahlia was “the one” when her brother, Vaughn, lost his battle with brain cancer.
During this incredibly difficult time, Dahlia relentlessly stood by her side. At the funeral, Tavin’s feelings were further affirmed when she heard her brother speak to her, saying: “She is going to watch over you for me. Make sure you treat her right.”
Tavin recalls, “As his voice faded away, I felt the tightest embrace from behind me followed by the sweet notes of fragrance lingering in the air. As I looked up, I saw Dahlia holding me with tears in her eyes, saying “It’s going to be okay; I got you.”.”
From then on, Tavin knew Dahlia was her person, and on a surprise trip to Dahlia’s homeland, Jamaica, Tavin equally surprised Dahlia by asking her to spend forever with her! Without hesitation, Dahlia said yes!

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal.
The year is 2015. It all started out the first week on the job.
Dahlia and I worked together that whole week from 7 am-11 pm. As for myself, as cliche as it may sound, I was instantly attracted to Dahlia the moment I laid eyes on her. Every time she walked into the room, it took my breath away and replaced it with butterflies that went straight to my stomach.
It was her beautiful captivating personality. Like any room she walked into, she instantly became the center of attention; the spotlight if you may. I just couldn’t resist but stare at her beauty as she radiated with sex appeal. I swear she had my mind racing and she knew it.
If you ask Dahlia, she’d probably deny it, but deep down she knows she use to play into my attraction. Whether it was a sashay down the gallery or a subtle touch of my hand as she passed by leaving nothing but a sweet note of her fragrance lingering in the air. Safe to say she had me wrapped around her finger early on.
Dahlia and I spent that whole week having what we call open conversations.
These were in-depth conversations that we had in which both of us would open up about things in our life. These conversations were about anything ranging from my brother Vaughn being diagnosed with brain cancer to Dahlia’s dreams of going to Dubai. Our conversations had no boundaries and we never knew where the conversation would lead to next.
Dahlia claims what initially attracted her to me was the love I have for my family. “I just love how family oriented you are” is what she always says. If you know Dahlia, then you know just how important family is to her. Dahlia believes the longer we worked with each other the more she started to admire me. First, it was my family, then it was my “flawless skin”, then it was the obsession with my lips. Before I knew it Dahlia was showering me with compliments day after day and I loved it.
The more comfortable we got with each other the more open the conversation became. Before I knew it, Dahlia was inquiring about the differences in being pleased by another female versus a man. I would always tell her it’s hard to explain, that it’s just something she would have to try. I could tell by her body language that the more we spoke on this topic the more it sparked her curiosity about same-sex relationships.
It didn’t take long for our work conversations to turn into car ride home conversations and for that to turn into falling asleep on the phone conversations. Dahlia and I both fell in love with each other’s company.
How’s that saying go? Time flies when you’re having fun. Yeah, that definitely was our life for the years to follow.
Dahlia and I decided to stop ignoring the inevitable and give a relationship a try. To this day we swear it was the best decision we ever made. Our lives literally fast-tracked since that point. We were together for a year and happier than ever.
Next thing I knew, Dahlia and I were buying our first house together. Then the perfect follow-up to that was Dahlia surprising me with a vacation trip for my birthday back to her homeland in Jamaica. Little did she know the surprise was on her.
Day 2 of us arriving in Jamaica I popped the question! Yes, that’s right, I proposed to Dahlia in under 2 years of being together because when you know you found your person… why wait.
No surprise to me, Dahlia said YES and we started wedding planning!
How did you know they were “the one”?
Things took a turn for us when my brother Von passed away; my whole world stopped. I was devastated and felt like I hit rock bottom. Dahlia was there for me through it all. She gave me a listening ear, a hand to hold, and a shoulder to cry on. She was the only person I could call at all hours of the night because the nightmares were keeping me awake. Dahlia was the only person that would hold me and just let me cry in her arms for hours reminding me that it would all be okay.
I remember attending my brother Von’s funeral and just feeling devastated. Sitting in the front row of the funeral filled with family and friends and yet feeling so alone. As I sat there I heard my brother Vaughn speak to me saying “Pick your head up Tae and stop all that crying. I’m doing better now big sis. No more pain and suffering. Plus, you know I didn’t leave you empty handed right? She is going to watch over you for me. Make sure you treat her right.”
As his voice faded away, I felt the tightest embrace from behind me followed by the sweet note of fragrance lingering in the air. As I looked up, I see Dahlia holding me with tears in her eyes saying “It’s going to be okay; I got you.”
Just like that, I no longer felt alone. It was at that moment I knew Dahlia was the one; a gift from my brother to me.
