“I was willing to do just about anything to change her last name” were the words spoken by Lloyd Owens about his now fiance Candice Williams when he finally collected his nerves to tell her he’s had a crush on her for at least 10 years!
For Lloyd, it was pretty much love at first sight when he first laid eyes on Candice, but he knew at that moment that there were a million and one reasons why that wasn’t the right time for them. So he watched from afar , seeing her at church and still unable to say anything other than a weak, “Hello.” “Our timing wasn’t right,” he said. Until one day things changed. Lloyd returned home from Atlanta to be back with his family when he had a talk with his mom which inspired him and gave him enough courage to do what he needed to do with Candice.
So one Sunday morning, Lloyd had collected all his nerves and approached Candice. He told her how he’s felt all these years about her and they haven’t looked back since. Lloyd recalls, “It wasn’t easy, but it was so worth it. She was armed with her short list of non-negotiables… and it just went from friendship, to courtship, to engagement”.
It was Mothers day and Lloyd cooked dinner for Candice, her mother, his sister in law as well as his mother. Once dinner was finished everyone gathered in the family room to listen to his son recite a poem he had written in tribute to the mothers. It was after his sons recital that Lloyd grabbed the billboards he created with “Dear Her” poems he had composed for Candice. He read each billboard, tossing them off to the side as he was done until he got to the last three which read, “Will” “You” “Marry Me” with an arrow pointing up at him. With such a beautiful proposal Candice of course said, “Yes!” Lloyd made the most beautiful statement saying “I get to marry my best friend!” which are words every girl dreams of hearing in her lifetime. The happy couple plans to wed on October 19, 2014 and we couldn’t be anymore excited for them!

Wedding Venue: Rob Fleming Park, The Woodlands, TX
First date
Our first date took place at the French Festival held at Discovery Green in Downtown Houston. We left the festival to walk through downtown and ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe. I thought it was really sweet and different because it was a change from the normal dinner and a movie routine. It was really relaxed and gave us time to really just talk, people watch, act silly, and get to know each other better.
Favorite thing to do as a couple
Is there just one… We both love music and water, so if we can find both of those together we’re there. We spend a lot of time in The Woodlands where there are beautiful parks that have ponds and there are frequently concerts happening at The Pavilion. Since we spend so much time in The Woodlands we chose to have the wedding there.
Then there is cooking/eating! Guess you can say we’re in heaven if there’s live music, water, and good food!
How has the wedding planning been so far?
Quite interesting since event planning really isn’t my thing, yet still we chose to be very DIY. There may or may not have been a headache here and there but for the most part its been amazing. Honestly, the whole thing has brought out creative parts of me that I forgot were there. I created the centerpieces for the reception. My fiance designed our invites, wedding website (www.hefoundher.com) and the CD cover for the CD of love songs will be giving out as souvenirs. My fiancé’s really good friend Yadiyda Sandra Oppong, @yadiydasclothing in Atlanta is creating my dress for me as a gift to us! So God has been good to us through this whole process. He has showered us with his provision and favor.
What are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?
I am looking forward to the sweet, loving, and romantic atmosphere of the small, intimate wedding we are planning. I’m am looking forward to being surrounded by those who support and love us. And I’m looking forward to marrying my best friend!
