Gathering inspiration from Botticelli’s Renaissance artwork, The Birth of Venus, Wedding Stylist and Planner Larissa Leath showcased the beauty of blackness wrapped in the duality of innocence and sensuality in this Bridal Boudoir styled shoot.
Like Botticelli’s painting, Leath emphasized that she sought to give the boudoir-styled shoot all of the trappings and effects of a goddess rising into her glory, unashamed and unapologetic.
Nothing conveys innocence, mystery, and purity like the image of a veiled bride who chooses to use the veil and gloves to exude mystery and purity; as one who is being transformed into a new life.
Just like in The Birth of Venus, model Mercedes Webb moves in silent tranquility, allowing the veil to become part of the images by photographer Gillian Menzie. The resulting photographs speak of a Black woman softly flowing in her own power.

What inspired your designs featured in this shoot?
Our brides! Allowing them to choose the perfect finishing touch for their wedding day.
Explain your design process…
I try to choose items that are unique. We want our brides to be different. To have something no one else has.
How do you work with various fabrics to make an impact with your designs?
Fabric and beadwork offer texture and dimension, the fabric needs to feel good against their body. It needs to have character; fabric is like water. It has a mind of its own, it will flow and move where it wants to and not where I want it to be.
What is your favorite look from this shoot?
The shot which shows the hat, headpiece and beaded jacket. I love seeing all the textures. The different beadwork, the shimmer and all the shades of ivory.
How do you want your clients to feel while wearing your accessories?
They need to be happy and feel beautiful! Their wedding day is a memory that cannot be recreated. The picture, maybe, but the feelings no. The feeling of oh my gosh, I am getting married to the love of my life. The tears of happiness. The joy of sharing this memorable moment with the most loving and caring friends and family. For the bride, many years in the future, to show her wedding pictures to her grandchildren. Sharing the stories of how fantastic her wedding day was. Creating more memories for generations to come.
