Joi Mooney’s intimate and magical outdoor garden bridal editorial was captured by New York based photographer Temilola Ajibulu and planned by Creative Touch Events. Photographed at The Proximity Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina, Joi shined in her bespoke gown that she customized with the team from Anjolique Bridal and Formal.
A Night Under The Stars was the dreamiest theme that the Mooney’s had in mind when they collaborated with Deveilope Events to design an unforgettable wedding day event all while using their last name to create a one-of-a-kind celebration for their I’Dos.

How we met…
We were on a blind date!! My cousin, Je’Mere’s line brother, was supposed to introduce us to each other during GHOE (A&T’s Homecoming). I didn’t have any cellular service, so I was not able to get in contact with him. Je’Mere found out that we were supposed to meet, and slid into my DMs. Our first date was actually on his birthday, he drove down from the DMV area to North Carolina so we could have our first date. That date is also the date that I closed on my home in NC. The rest was history!! We were long-distance from 2017 to 2020 when he proposed. He proposed to me the way we started our first date, in my empty home (I took a leap and sold my house in October 2022 to move to the DMV area to be with Je’Mere full time), just us two!
Wedding day inspiration…
Our wedding day was magical! My new last name is “Mooney”, so we wanted our guests to feel like they were part of a “Night Under the Stars”. Everything from our free standing eight-foot moon, all the way to the milk and cookies for our “Good Night Moon” dance room, all tied into our last name. Our colors were black, deep navy, silvers, and white.
All the details…
No decor was DIY, however our designer Deveilope Events, took every piece of inspiration in order to give us a Mooney night.
Floral design elements…
We had a lot going on at our wedding. For starters, I always wanted an outdoor ceremony. Our outdoor ceremony was all white and ivory florals, and pillars of florals on our stage. It went perfectly with my dress from Anjolique. In our second room, we wanted a room designed just for eating. We had an estate table in our dining room that allowed our guests to feel like it was family-style seating. Our last room was our Good Night Moon room. All-white draped room, with beautiful white lounge furniture and canopy beds.
The perfect touch…
Our hotel gift bags had Mini Mumbo Sauces to represent Washington DC (where the groom is from) mini Cheerwines to represent North Carolina (where the bride is from), a custom cup for the wedding day, and custom popcorn from a black-owned vendor in Raleigh NC that was “Cookies and Creme”.
Wedding style…
I picked a gown from Anjolique Bridal (Wona), and my overlay skirt did not actually belong with my bridal gown, but I asked them if I could purchase it off of another Wona Gown. It was perfect. Je’Mere, the groom, wore a Navy custom suit from Dapper Couture, and changed into an Ivory custom tux also from Dapper Couture. For our reception look, we both had matching off-white converses, and I wore a halter dress from Revolve, and he wore a custom Tux vest from Dapper Couture.
The best memory…
Our first look!!!! I could replay our first look over and over again. It was the best part of my life and my wedding day. Just having that sacred moment with just us.
Before I’Do…
Pre- marital counseling! Take the necessary steps and do the work before you walk down the aisle. Also, we fed our bridal party all weekend, if you can squeeze it into the budget, always feed your friends.
