Tierney and Leroy first met at a “Southern Heritage Classic Party,” byway of a mutual friend, where they mingled and exchanged numbers. Serendipitously, they ran into each other again the following evening, enjoying good company and conversation. A good friendship formed until they decided to take their relationship to the next level. Their first date was spent looking at each other with blushing faces over breakfast. As a couple, some of their favorite things to do include just generally enjoying life and nature by “walks in the park, sitting by the lake, watching sunsets, or having moon dates.”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. My friend John was having a Southern Heritage Classic Party and I decided to attend. A mutual friend of ours that had moved to New Orleans came home to party and happened to invite Leroy to come up to Memphis and meet some new people. We mingled, exchanged numbers and that was it. We ran into each other again the next night and we chatted it up again. The conversation wasn’t bad, so we knew it wasn’t just the alcohol! I wished him a safe trip home and never expected to hear from him again. The rest came to my surprise when he actually waited the allotted two to three day waiting period and called me.
The proposal…at this point we’d been dating long distant for about seven months and I was in-town on a surprise visit. We’d had a fun-filled weekend and I was heading home. He being the spur-of-the-moment and unconventional guy that he is, gets down on one knee, tells me he loves me and asks me to be his wife. Of course I said yes!
Describe your engagement session. We wanted our engagement shoot to be a mixture of who we were. We tend not to take ourselves too seriously. We like to be comfortable, have fun, and be silly as much as possible but at times we love to dress up and engage in the night life and be adults. He’s a “sneaker-head” (I’m a heels chick) so we totally compromised. I chose what I thought were some cool sneaks that matched the perfect ‘geek’ shirts that played on his childhood nickname. (He’s gonna kill me for telling the world but he absolutely loved the idea!) It gave me a chance to dress down for a chance. But being the semi-DIVA that I am, incorporated one of our favorite colors in the formal part of our engagement shoot. I got a chance to work my heels and match his fly and sexiness, while still being a total goof ball behind the camera.
What did you do on your first date? Our first date was a little awkward, to me at least. We’d been friends for a while, so we just sat there looking at each other blushing in disbelief that we were taking things to the next level. We’d never been shy with words but that morning at breakfast was a little odd and quiet. He was, however, surprised that I ate my whole plate of food. He was very impressed by that. I’m not one of those prissy girls that don’t eat in front of guys, I get down.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Our favorite thing to do as a couple is enjoy life. We both enjoy nature. As corny as it sounds, whether it be walks in the parks, sitting by the lake, watching sunsets or having moon dates. We’re foodies and music lovers, so we’re always into trying new restaurants, different venues, live bands, new music, etc.
How has wedding planning been so far? Wedding planning for him has been a breeze. He just has to deal with his new Bridezilla! Wedding planning for me leaves me reaching for the Prozac somedays but I love every large and small detail of it. Being the control freak that I am, I want this to be a beautiful day for him even more than for myself.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Our wedding day has been reserved for our close family and friends. We look forward to being surrounded by those we love and that have fully supported us on our journey. We look forward to having fun, relaxing and taking in each moment and making memories into our forever together!
