Morgan and Kyle knew each other since high school, but it was a fateful run-in at a hospital and a prayer that started their journey to marriage.
Kyle’s father was diagnosed with cancer and had to receive surgery. While holding his father’s hand in the pre-operation room, Kyle prayed to God for a sign that everything would be alright. Within minutes, Morgan, his highschool friend and former girlfriend, walked through the door. She worked at the hospital and was headed to see another patient. They had not seen each other in years, but Morgan’s presence instantly gave Kyle peace. Kyle shares, “The next day I sent Morgan some flowers to thank her for giving me that needed sense of comfort. I sent her a follow-up message on Facebook messenger and from there we re-established communication. Within weeks we started dating.”
Their chemistry the second time around was even stronger. Within a year they were engaged and planning their wedding.
They decided to have a beautiful destination wedding on the remote island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. The sea served as a breathtaking natural backdrop for their nuptials. Guests enjoyed the Caribbean breeze as they took in the unique and colorful decor full of various shades of green, pink, and orange.
Their photos perfectly capture the stunning details and rich emotions shared that day. Enjoy.

How They Met
We’ve known each other since high school, but we did not date. We dated in 2004, but I {Kyle} liked being single. We stopped dating later in 2004 and did not communicate for over 10 years.
In February 2016 my {Kyle’s} father was diagnosed with cancer. He was scheduled for surgery in March 2016. I was holding his hand in the pre-operating room and praying. I asked God for a sign that everything was going to be alright. Within minutes Morgan walked through the door. She was headed to see a patient. As she was passing my dad’s bed I said, “Hello Morgan.” We exchanged pleasantries. We hadn’t seen each other in a while. Seeing her that day gave me a sense of comfort.
The next day I sent Morgan some flowers to thank her for giving me that needed sense of comfort. I sent her a followup message in Facebook messenger and from there we re-established communication. Within weeks we started dating.
To see if the relationship could progress we decided to travel together. We went to Belize on May 27, 2016. We had a great time!!!! Over the summer things started to get serious and by the fall I knew she was the one for me.
The Proposal
On Saturday, October 22, 2016, we went out to eat in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. I was extremely nervous. After dinner, I asked Morgan to take me to the plot where our house was being built, and I popped the question. She said “YES!!!!!” We went on our first traveling date on May 27, 2016, and we were married on May 27, 2017. What a difference a year makes!!!!
Incorporation of Culture
Our wedding was pretty traditional. From an African American cultural perspective we did jump the broom.
Wedding style
My favorite wedding accessory was a small blue picture frame containing a picture of my mother who passed away in 2011. It was attached to my wedding bouquet.
Best Wedding Memory
The best memory from the wedding was all of our friends meeting each other for the pre-wedding party at El Blok hotel the day before the wedding. That was a wonderful time.
Wedding Advice
When thinking about your budget try not to go crazy. The wedding day is just one day. The beginning of the rest of your lives starts today. Please spend money on the photographer and the videographer because the pictures and the videos are going to be your lasting memory of your wedding day!!
