When a co-worker of Jeremy was dating a friend of Tyneisha, the two thought Tyneisha and Jeremy might make the perfect couple – and they were right. Being introduced by their mutual friends, Tyneisha and Jeremy had a natural connection, and the more time they spent together the deeper that connection grew until they both recognized their soul’s mate in each other. Jeremy began dreaming of their perfect proposal, until Tyneisha’s birthday trip to New York City presented the opportunity he’d been waiting for…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We were set up by mutual friends in 2013. Specifically, one of Jeremy’s co-workers was dating one of my friends and they thought we would make a good match.
For the proposal…we went to NYC to celebrate my birthday over Memorial Day weekend in 2017. We stayed at a hotel in Times Square and started off the day at a Yankees game. After, we went to a Jamaican spot for dinner (The Feeding Tree) followed by a trip to a specialized cookie and milkshakes shop (Schmackary’s). We then walked to Times Square (surprisingly Jeremy had never been) and took pictures on the Red Steps. I was getting tired so we started to head back to the hotel and I noticed Bryant Park was across the street, so we headed over there for a bit. The park was really pretty at night with lights and fountains. We took some photos and then headed back to the hotel. When we got to our room I turned and he was down on one knee saying there’s been something I’ve been meaning to ask you…and there, after saying my full name, he asked me to be his wife!
Describe your wedding attire. My ceremony dress was a huge ballgown. I wanted lots of drama and some bling in my ceremony dress, an Allure Romance from Dress Two Impress Bridal & Formal Boutique. My reception dress was a strapless fit and flare covered in bling. It was perfect to move around in for our choreographed first dance – a Mori Lee Madeline Gardner from Bijou Bridal. Jeremy wore a traditional black tux with a plum vest and black bow tie, from Men’s Warehouse.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? I thoroughly enjoyed the dress shopping experience. It honestly was one of my favorite parts while planning. I loved trying on all different styles of gowns and sharing those moments with my family and bridal party. We went to about eight bridal shops in three trips while searching for my two gowns and I tried on about fifty gowns or so.
Jeremy, myself and our mother’s also had a great day going to cake tastings and checking out venues.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We are both African American and we jumped the broom during our ceremony.
Wedding Party Gifts: I purchased my bridesmaid’s dresses, jewelry and hair jewelry for the wedding, as well gifted them Michael Kors wristlets. Jeremy purchased his groomsmen personalized mugs, personalized wallets and credit card bottle openers.
Gifts for each other: Six weeks before the wedding we decided to take private dance lessons for our first dance. We treated ourselves to lessons with Fred Astaire dance studio in Doylestown, PA. We worked very hard and had a great instructor. Our guests were so surprised by our dance.
Ceremony entrance song: “The One He Kept for Me” by Maurette Brown Clark
First dance song: “Mash up of Best Part” by Daniel Ceasar & HER, & “This is Why I Love You” by Major.
What is your best memory from your wedding? I would say one of the best memories from our wedding was listening to the speeches by the best man and maids of honor. They truly did a wonderful job. Their speeches were hilarious yet still touching. We also thoroughly enjoyed taking a few minutes to ourselves to take night time photos outside of the venue. It was nice to be able to step away from everyone and everything for a moment and soak it all in.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Stay focused on one another during the planning process and remember the day is about celebrating YOUR love. It is very easy to let others stress you out, but at the end of the day it is just about you and your partner.
