The Half Moon resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica was the perfect location for Sabrina and Jamil’s nuptials. A nod to the bride’s Jamaican background, the wedding was filled with beautiful caribbean elements. Lush greenery, the beautiful blue ocean, and powder blue skies served as the backdrop for their fantastical day. Sabrina’s Pnina Tornai ball gown aptly complimented the destination wedding as the full skirt mimicked the waves of the Jamaican ocean and the corseted top added a sexiness that the caribbean is so famous for. Both intimate and romantic, their wedding embodied a dreaminess that only true love and a stunning island could create.

Tell us all about the proposal!
He told me we were going to go out on a date (I figured we were going to dinner), however, we get to this random spot in the city. When the doors opened, to my surprise it was an art studio. The scene was so romantic. The lights were dim, there were cupcakes, a bouquet of flowers, and a bottle of wine. To set the mood, a playlist of all of our favorite songs from over the years were playing. We had a private painting lesson for a couple hours. Our easels were back to back so we couldn’t see each other’s paintings. When time was up, we walked over to mine first and talked about it, then we walked over to his…… and there it was, on his painting were the words “will you marry me?” He got down on one knee and popped the question! After all the excitement, he still had more planned. We hopped in a cab, went to a lounge and waiting there were all of our closest friends! We had a couple of drinks and laughs and then decided to go to dinner; but there was another surprise! My family arrived at the restaurant!
Describe your wedding dress. How was dress shopping for you?
My dress is a Pnina Tornai ball gown, with a ribbed corset from Kleinfeld Bridal in Manhattan. I also added a slender belt to add a little extra glam. It gave me the perfect mix of elegance with a hint of sensuality. While dress shopping I only took my mom, sister, and close friend. My sister has a really good eye for details and she actually sent me a picture of the dress a week before we went to Kleinfeld. I wasn’t too keen on the dress from the photos, however, to appease her it was the first dress I tried on at my appointment. Once I looked in the mirror I knew and I think everyone in the room knew that that dress was meant for me. It was perfect, everything I was looking for, and I immediately envisioned walking down the aisle in it. I tried on several different dresses, but no other compared. I tried it on once again and said yes to the dress!
What is your favorite memory of your wedding day?
Our favorite moment was the first look. We both shared tears of joy seeing each other for the first time in a very genuine and private moment. It also allowed us to take pictures before the ceremony so that we could enjoy every aspect of the wedding.
How was culture incorporated in your wedding?
Our wedding ceremony was traditional. However, the reception had many caribbean attributes as the bride’s family is from Jamaica. The reception was a mix of both Jamaican and American flare.
What advice do you have for our brides to be?
Go with your instinct. If you really like something then go with it, if it doesn’t feel right then don’t do it. Also, trust your vendors and wedding planners, they do this for a living!
